CAPE TOWN Stadium has hosted the FIFA World Cup, some exciting international events and has been the stage for electrifying music acts.
But it is so much more than just a stadium.
It has also become a sought after film and stills location for a variety of local and international production companies.
With its excellent location, easy access and world-class facilities it’s the perfect choice when it comes to making any production a dream.
“You’ll have to search far and wide around the world to find a venue with a backdrop like Table Mountain and the Atlantic coastline at your doorstep,” said the Stadium’s CEO Lesley de Reuck in a recent interview with Film Cape Town.
Situated in the heart of the city, access to and support for the stadium also makes it an ideal location for a production of any size.
The Cape Town Stadium management team, working with the production company and the Film Office, has been able to handle several commercials and even full-length feature films – including 2018’s Maze Runner: The Death Cure.
The stadium offers a variety of shoot options from the stadium bowl to multiple parking areas, corridors, changing rooms and even the pitch itself. With a little imagination, any idea can be brought to life.
According to De Reuck, the pitch and change rooms are regular choices with the stadium’s roof also becoming a popular request.
“As you can imagine, the view from the roof is something else and absolutely spectacular,” he said.
The stadium has also played host to the launch of several top-end cars and was recently selected as one of the in-game playgrounds for Dirt 5, the fifth instalment of the highly successful Dirt franchise which features rally cars and tracks from around the world.
De Reuck explained what a huge breakthrough it was for the stadium to feature in such a successful gaming franchise.
“We’re taking the stadium into the arms of gamers across the world during a pandemic.”
Its convenient location and world-class infrastructure are just some of the components that make the Cape Town Stadium the perfect venue for any production.
De Reuck also reiterated how the Stadium’s staff play a vital role in offering a space fit for any shoot.
Years of hosting some of the world’s largest sporting events and some of the biggest names in entertainment mean that the team has the experience to deal with any logistics that come their way.
It’s these skills that has also helped the Stadium pivot during a global pandemic – ensuring that it’s not just an amazing venue but a safe one too.
For the wellbeing of staff, cast and crew, the stadium has employed COVID-19 mitigation measures including screening, sanitising, social distancing and limiting numbers at the venue.
It’s all about responsible filmmaking and making sure that business can carry on as normal.
